Tell us about your background. What did you do before you had the idea to create Portfolio Development Services (PDS)?

I trained as a dentist, and I graduated back in 1992.  After working in private practice for a few years, I specialized as a pediatric dentist and then as an orthodontist. It was during that time that I started getting into real estate… investing in properties.

I knew that my colleagues in the dental and medical field had the same problems that I had when it came to investing…the lack of time, knowledge and finding a company that they could trust. There’s so much red tape with patients… that you don’t really have time for investing in your own future. And when you do invest, you may not really know what you’re doing.

So it was during that time—probably about 3 or 4 years ago—that I started getting the idea of forming a company that really helps doctors start investing in real estate.

And over the last couple of years, seeking the advice from real estate professionals, attorney’s, accountants etc., I’ve fine-tuned the ideas, focusing on the philosophies of:

1. Forming a relationship with our clients built on trust and integrity
2. Investing with ‘Social Justice’ – investment strategies that benefit investors, tenants and communities

PDS is really about doing everything for those people that are simply too busy to invest.

I understand that you’ve been encouraged by a trusted advisor.

In the formative stages in the development of PDS, I met Paul Shultheis, CEO for Real Property Investments Inc. who has been very successful working in real estate for about 30 years. I’ve talked to him about PDS and he offered great advice from his vast experience. He remains on our advisory board.

And Paul Schultheis is based in the U.S.?

Yes. He started off in California and now he operates a large property investment company based in Flagstaff, Arizona. He’s been running his own business for about 30 years, completing over $200 million in transactions.
